“DIN” stands for “Deutsche Industrie Norm,” which in english means “German industry standard.” These standards apply to multiple areas beyond type.

FF DIN is based on DIN-Mittelschrift, a display face used on the traffic signs and public buildings in Germany.

Albert-Jan Pool developed DIN with many weights, condensed, extendeds,
and italics.

used: for anything german, many Ads and billboards. good for signage.
Characteristics: open, large counters, easy to read. strokes cut on 90 or 45 degree angles.
