Typographical character used to refer to a particular section of a document. it is often used along with a pilcrow ¶ .

The sign came from a double stroked S. Scribes often double stroked a letter in place of the more modern bold weighted characters.

usages:
If the asterisk and daggers have been used, the § can be used in footnotes.
Type specimen in animals.
